Description

Total Eclipse for String Orchestra is an exciting Grade 3 concert piece designed for school ensembles. With its driving rhythms and dramatic contrasts, it captures the energy and intensity of a total eclipse, making it an engaging and memorable addition to any concert program.

Total Eclipse was inspired by the total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017, which I experienced in the United States. The piece also reflects humanity’s changing relationship with the unknown. In earlier times, an eclipse could bring fear and confusion. Today, the same event is predicted, studied, photographed, and shared with wonder. Its story follows a boy and his father joining a gathered crowd as the final seconds are counted, daylight fades, and the moon covers the sun. What was once mystery becomes awe through knowledge.
